Community Information—Education

The Warren County School System, serving approximately 3,200 students, includes a high school, a middle school, four elementary schools, and a pre-kindergarten center. All Schools have either been recently built or renovated, placing students in contemporary, well-equipped facilities that rival any in the state. There are computer labs with Internet access in each elementary school, the middle and high schools have added second labs, and there is at least one computer in every classroom in the system. A strong emphasis on improving student achievement has resulted in increased performance on state testing, and the school system scored very well in the first round of "No Child Left Behind" assessments.

Other educational resources include a private school, Norlina Christian School, serving grades K-12; the Haliwa-Saponi Tribal School, a charter school serving grades K-8; and in Vance County, Kerr-Vance Academy serves grades K-12.

Warren County High School is the proud home of the first rural NASA Aeronautic Education Laboratory (AEL) in the United States. The NASA Science, Engineering, Mathematics & Aerospace Academy (SEMAA), an enrichment program summer camp experience is designed to stimulate interest in careers in science and technology through hands-on, inquiry based, cooperative learning that allows students at every level to learn by doing. The AEL workstations provide meteorology/weather, virtual reality flight, wind tunnel, remote sensing, GPS/amateur radio communications, aircraft design, and Internet research opportunities.
