Community Information—AmenitiesShoppingAll major types of purchases can be made in Warrenton or Norlina. Beyond the meeting standard household needs, our quaint historic downtowns have become home to many antique and specialty shops. In addition to the three malls in the County, within a 25 minute drive of Warrenton there are shopping malls in Henderson, Roanoke Rapids and Littleton. In just an hour, you’re shopping in Raleigh, Chapel Hill or Rocky Mount. HousingWarren County is graced with many beautiful homes dating from the 18th century to the present. Warrenton, in particular, boasts a distinctive group of fine buildings constructed during the 1840s and 1850s. in and around both the towns of Warrenton and Norlina there are attractive subdivisions with building lots available. Land is available on both Gaston and Kerr lakes for residential construction. Many beautiful subdivisions with available houses are located on Lake Gaston. ChurchesAll major denominations are well represented throughout Warren County and include, but are not limited to, the following: Catholic, Episcopal, Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Pentecostal Holiness, and Jehovah's Witness. Cultural ActivitiesWarren County is advantageously located with respect to cultural activities.
Lakeland Cultural Arts
Center is located 15 miles east of Warrenton and features a variety of
plays, dinner theaters, instructional programs and other fine cultural
activities. Lakeland is reputedly the busiest single-stage community theatre in
the United States. RecreationThe County of Warren conducts a full-time recreation program administered by the Parks and Recreation Director. There are a number of baseball and basketball leagues throughout the County for all age groups. Lake Gaston20,000 acres of clear blue, fresh water with 350 miles of shoreline (34 miles long). The water of Lake Gaston has officially been classified “A-2,” the highest rating in the eastern United States. Water levels vary less than one foot under normal conditions. Lake Gaston has year-round appeal for quiet dining, fishing, camping, sailing, golf or action recreation (boating, skiing, dancing). Cottages, mobile homes and boat rentals are available. Kerr LakeA 50,000-acre impoundment with over 800 miles of shoreline. Over 850 campsites are available. Three commercial marinas provide excellent resources for boaters. Community buildings with kitchen facilities and picnic shelters are located throughout the parks for public use. The lake attracts some three million visitors annually. North Carolina operates seven state parks along the lake. Kimball Point and County Line State Recreation Areas are located in Warren County, drawing over 150,000 visitors annually. Civic, Fraternal and Youth OrganizationsA wide variety of civic and fraternal organizations can be found throughout Warren County, including the Warren County Arts Council, Warrenton Woman’s Club, Macon Woman’s Club, The Warren County Jaycees, Shriners Club, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Volunteer Fire Departments, AARP, Garden Clubs, 4-H activities, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, Citizens for Animal Protection, NAACP, Warren Education Fund and many, many others. LodgingHotel and motel units are available near lake Gaston, and there are numerous hotels nearby. The County currently has three charming Bed & Breakfasts in operation—The Ivy, the Magnolia Manor Plantation, and the Scarlet Inn (252) 257-4127. A wide variety of vacation rentals from campsites, to cabins, townhouses and lakefront homes are available at both Kerr and Gaston Lakes. Financial InstitutionsBB&T, First Citizens and the Local Government Federal Credit Union have branches located in Warrenton, and Southern Bank is located in Norlina. In addition, ATM machines are located in area shopping centers. HighwaysWarren County is within easy reach of both Interstates 85 and 95, with I-85
crossing the northwest corner of the county and I-95 being only 15 miles to the
east. The county is crisscrossed by US-401, US-158, US-1, NC-43 and NC-58.
Airline ServiceLocal commercial air service is provided by the Raleigh/Durham International Airport (RDU) located between Raleigh and Durham, 55 miles from Warrenton, and the Henderson/Oxford Airport (HNZ) located 22 miles and 25 minutes from Warrenton. Paved and lighted 5,000 foot runway, paved parallel taxiways, full instrument landing, jet fuel and complete executive maintenance and hangar spaces are also available.
